"Insecure men are the most dangerous men in the world."
- Don Hudson
I like telling children the fairytale of “The Handless Maiden"; at least an edited version of the original story. The story reveals the impact of an insecure fathers get rich quick scheme on his daughter. She looses both her hands and spends much of her life alone and wandering before she is finally restored by the love of the King, who has no trace of insecurity.
I have come to view the story more as a metaphor than a fairytale. I know allot of young ladies who can relate to the maiden. Insecure men have left them feeling helpless in this world, in need of a loving King.
I also know I am the insecure father. The more insecure I am the more I use people, neglect people and demand of people. I will do whatever it takes to feel important, successful, or comfortable. I demand other people to be courageous where I am fearful. I really do want to be more like the king in the story.
